Captain Matthew Purdy RA wins the Gunmakers’ Trophy at Her Majesty The Queen’s Prize at Bisley, 27 July 2019

At the final day of this year’s Queen’s Prize at Bisley on 27 th July,  organised by the NRA,  Captain Purdy was this year’s Gunmakers’ winner. An outstanding long range shot, Captain Purdy won the new competition which is made up of the aggregate of the two 1,000 yard shoots, shot on the Monday and Wednesday of the 9 day Annual Prize Meeting for Target Rifles. During the week he also won numerous other long range (900 and 1,000 yards) trophies. He is only the second person to take the prize,  a fine Georgian silver cup which had been languishing in the Museum at Bisley and was re-instated last year under the new rules

Matthew Purdy started Target Rifle shooting aged 13 at Gresham’s School in north Norfolk, and continued to shoot through university, and has been selected to shoot for England and Great Britain on several occasions. Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 2015 and seen service in Estonia and the Falklands, he is now training as an instructor in Air Defence.  We wish him the best of luck for his future army career.
