The Company, founded by Royal Charter in 1637, still performs its statutory duties as enacted in the acts of parliament, ensuring the safety of firearms in the United Kingdom. It's also the oldest, and most exclusive, membership organisation for shooting and firearms heritage.

One of only two working livery companies of the City of London, the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers has a long and rich heritage stretching back to the earliest annals of British gunmaking, and with a close association with the Monarchy. The Company has evolved for nearly four centuries and discharges its statutory duty today as it did in 1637.

Membership

Membership of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers is admission to a small and dedicated community. The primary requirement is of an individuals good character and standing. Moreover, a shared joy for fellowship, philanthropy, support of the Mayoralty, the City & Civic, and the pursuit, progress and sustainability of this historic ancient working Livery.

Keeping Safe The People Who Serve

The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers has a statutory duty under the Gun Barrel Proof Act of 1868 to ensure that all firearm used in the UK meet the highest standards of safety. This work is still performed by the experienced technical staff at the London Proof House.
