A Lifetime Achievement Award for Gunmaker Ron Johnson

The Court Dinner this year had the rare privilege of witnessing the first Lifetime Achievement Award made by the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers. Devised to recognise a lifetime of excellence in gunmaking, it was awarded with great pride by the Master to Liveryman Ron Johnson at the Court Dinner in Pewterer’s Hall 11 April 2019. In his citation, Ron was described as

a renowned craftsman, well known for his skill in gunmaking in general, and in barrel browning and blacking in particular, he is held in high esteem by his peers, not least because he embodies the tradition built up over five generations of family gunmaking. His personal qualities are equally respected: his dedication to quality, to the continuous improvement of his skills and to the spirit of fellowship within the trade and the Livery. In making this award, the Company considers Mr Johnson to be a truly exemplary gunmaker and is therefore honoured to make it in celebration of his many achievements …

Mr Johnson was accompanied by son and Liveryman Matthew Johnson, and daughters Sarah Van den Hoogen and Samantha Marsden.
