A Tour and Shoot with Gallyon Guns, 7 May 2025

In early May, the Master organised a visit to the Gallyon workshops in Cambridgeshire where we were hosted by both Master and Adam. The Master and Adam took over the ownership of the business from past Master Richard Gallyon (still an ambassador the business).

We learned about the history of Gallyon dating back to1784 in Cambridge and how both the Master and Adam took over the running of the business from past Master Richard Gallyon (still an ambassador the business).

The Master and Adam entertained the 20 or so attendees to a fascinating tour of both the precision manufacturing engineering facilities of Cambridge Precision and the Gallyon artisanal workshops.

The tour finished in the workshops of Gallyon where we met their amazing team of highly skilled craftsmen which included Richard’s son George, who was an apprentice under a bursary from the Gunmakers while working as an actioner of bolt rifles.

He then moved to Gallyon after completing his apprenticeship and passing the Certification Panel review.

Lunch was a delicious light lunch in the Gallyon conference room and then, a trip to a local clay range where we have the privilege of testing two Gallyon models, the 20b Cambridge and 12b Holkham, both over and under guns designed by Don Custerson, featuring innovative and patented (3 Patents) technology.

Our thanks go to the Master for his and his colleagues’ marvellous welcome and fascinating lecture, not just on the Superlative Gallyon gun manufacturer, but also a rare insight into the wonders of high-quality British precision engineering.

The general feeling among the guests was one of pride in the world-leading quality of engineering in Cambridge, we tend to be given the impression that manufacture in this country is dead, but. judging by what we saw, the precision engineering industry is going strong and we.  All agreed we need to ‘big-up’ British industry!

If the chance to visit occurs again, we would wholeheartedly recommend the tour to all the company

153 years of military service paraded at The Proof House when eight In-Pensioners from The Royal Hospital Chelsea visited on Tuesday 12 August 2025. Both are illuminated documents, inscribed on vellum, which […] The post Restoration of the Gunmakers’ Charter appeared first on Worshipful Company of Gunmakers.
