Annual Inter-Livery Rifle Shooting, 6 June 2025

The RAF Target Rifle Team (in aid of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund) once again hosted the popular Inter-Livery Rifle Shooting competition at Bisley.

This year, the competition took place on the 81st anniversary of D-Day. Sixteen teams of three Liverymen competed across five disciplines, Target Rifle at 1,000 yards, Sniper Rifle at 300 yards, .22 Gallery Rifle, Running Boar, and Black Powder Revolver Pistol, for the magnificent ‘Bakers Cup’. Individual and team prizes were also awarded for the highest scores in each discipline.

The RAF Target Rifle Team provided excellent hospitality throughout the day at their splendid Bisley clubhouse. The coaches included many past and present members of the RAF Target Rifle Team, as well as distinguished members of the Great Britain Target Rifle Team.

The prizes were presented by Flt. Lt. Colin Bell DFC BEM AE. The 104-year-old veteran and Mosquito pilot delivered an interesting and amusing address to the assembled teams. His courage, humility, and wit deeply resonated with all, making his appearance a heartfelt tribute to his generation’s sacrifice.

The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers’ team comprised Liverymen Patrick Turner (Captain), Dr. Thomas Hughes, and Robin Curtis. Although the team didn’t quite manage to win the overall top prize this year, they secured first place in the Sniper Rifle discipline at 300 yards. Additionally, Patrick won the Running Boar competition, and Thomas took the top score prize in the Gallery Rifle discipline.

The weather was kind to us, and a fantastic day of varied shooting was had by all!
