Grand Madeira Dinner, 19 February 2025

The gathering in the glorious Great Subscription Room.

Fifty-seven Liverymen and their guests gathered in the Spencer Room at Brooks’s Club in London on 19th February before attending a rather special dinner centred around the wines of Blandy’s, Madeira.

Blandy’s is unique for being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their original wine company.  The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine since the early 19th Century.

The event, organised by Liveryman Peter-Carlo Lehrell, featured special guest Chris Blandy, the CEO of Blandy’s.

We were greeted with an apéritif of “Atlantis”, the first table wine to be produced on the Island in 1992 and thereafter followed a delicious 3-course dinner held in the Great Subscription Room with each course complemented by, not one, but two different Madeira wines.

The evening concluded with a short five-lot auction, conducted with suitable bombast by Peter-Carlo,  in support of the Gunmakers’ Company Charitable Trust’s  objectives, along with a delightful digestif of Blandy’s 1978 Terrantez.

The diners generously supported the Trust to the tune of over £3000!
