Gunmakers in support of the NHS
With their traditional custom currently all but non-existent, Helston Forensics decided to switch focus. Chris Price, Past Master Gunmaker and his team have managed to cram all the equipment from the back of their forensics facility to the front, leaving some 18,000 sq feet, which has been gifted to the NHS for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said ‘everything kicked off at the beginning of April. Not long after the first shipment of bulk NHS equipment arrived by vans and cars from Treliske Hospital at Truro for re-packing and distribution throughout Cornwall, I then had a call from the Cabinet Office – I would normally scream down the phone “we don’t advertise” and slam the phone down, but on this rare occasion I listened. A charming chap said his Department was tasked with listing all offers of help, including warehousing space. He asked if we had refrigerated facilities within the factory, (which we don’t), so I said no. Then we discussed what else we could offer which is 24 hour access, fork lift drivers (me), container and lorry parking and so on. So we are now on the Government website as a facility. Meanwhile, the NHS have a gang of helpers who pack and distribute, bring some life back to our otherwise ghost town of a trading estate.’
