Gunmakers Master Made Fellow

Richard Hefford-Hobbs Awarded Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering 

Richard Hefford-Hobbs FREng has been awarded the esteemed Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a prestigious honour recognising his exceptional contributions to the field of engineering. 


The announcement was made on the 24th of September 2025, highlighting Richard as one of a select few individuals to receive this accolade each year. 

The Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship is awarded to those who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of engineering and technology, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. With this recognition, Richard joins a distinguished community of engineers who have shaped the future of their profession through their imaginative and impactful work.


“I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Royal Academy of Engineering,” said Richard. “This award reflects not just my efforts but the collaborative spirit of all those I have worked with throughout my career. Richard’s dedication to engineering, innovation, education and leadership at Cambridge Precision, Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge, the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers and Gallyon have significantly influenced both the academic and practical aspects of the engineering industry.


The Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering is not only a mark of individual achievement but also serves to inspire the next generation of engineers. As a newly inducted Fellow, Richard is committed to mentoring young engineers and promoting the importance of innovation, ethical practices, diversity and inclusion within the profession, as well as supporting the Royal Academy.
