His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh KG KT, 1921 – 2021

It was with great sadness that the Gunmakers’ Company learnt of the death of The Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle. The announcement from Buckingham Palace read:

It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

Further announcements will be made in due course.

The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

Passionate about wildlife and conservation, he was a keen shot and a great country sports enthusiast. Several best English Gunmakers held his Royal Warrant and he took particular interest in our apprentices. His legacy is of the numerous organisations he inspired, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which have made a difference to so many lives. His selfless sense of purpose and support of Her Majesty The Queen will be his enduring hallmark.
