Today we celebrate the 389th birthday of our Company — a remarkable milestone that speaks to the strength, continuity, and purpose of The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers.
For nearly four centuries the Company has safeguarded the traditions, skills, and standards that define our craft, while continuing to evolve in response to the world around us. That enduring balance between heritage and progress is what keeps the Company vibrant and relevant today.
As we mark this anniversary, it is worth reflecting on the generations of Gunmakers, Wardens, Court members and Liverymen who have stewarded the Company with care and foresight. Their dedication has ensured that our charter, our responsibilities to the trade, and our wider charitable and civic roles remain as important now as they have ever been.
But anniversaries are not only about looking back. They are also about looking forward. The Company continues to strengthen its role in supporting the craft, developing future talent, and maintaining the high standards for which the Gunmakers’ Company is respected around the world.
I am deeply grateful for the commitment, enthusiasm and friendship that so many of you bring to the life of the Company. It is your support that ensures the Gunmakers’ Company will continue to flourish well into its fifth century.
