VE Day 8 May 2025

The Master and Clerk were in attendance at the remarkable VE Day Evensong service held at St Paul’s Cathedral, led by the Lord Mayor. The Master reports:

“It was a poignant occasion that commemorated the sacrifices and resilience of those who served during World War II. The atmosphere was imbued with a sense of reverence and gratitude, as we came together to honour the past while looking toward a hopeful future.

The service featured stirring hymns and readings that resonated deeply with all in attendance. As Gunmakers, both the Clerk and I felt truly honoured to be invited to such a significant event, surrounded by esteemed guests, community members and other Livery Companies.

The Lord Mayor’s address was particularly inspiring, reminding us of the importance of unity and remembrance in our ongoing commitment to peace.

This experience not only celebrated history but also reinforced our collective responsibility to ensure that the values of courage and sacrifice are never forgotten. It was a day of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration, and we are grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful service”
